The Westcoast Calligraphy Society is an enthusiastic group of people with a common bond–a love of all things calligraphic. We like to share our knowledge of design, colour, illustration, bookbinding, paper making and our other talents with everyone interested in the art of letters. Many of our members teachbeginning and more advanced calligraphy throughout the Lower Mainland.
The Society began life in September 1978 as the Society for Italic Handwriting, B. C. Branch. As the Society grew and its members’ interests expanded, the focus broadened to all types of calligraphy and in June 1986, the name was changed to Westcoast Calligraphy Society.
With our new name, we needed a new logo. We ran a contest for members from September 1986 to March 1987. The winner was chosen by a panel of jurors from the dozen ideas submitted. Jorge Veloso’s logo design was selected as the winner. We have been proudly using this logo ever since.

The Westcoast Society Calligraphy is dedicated to fostering the appreciation for the art of calligraphy. Extend an invitation to our artists for live hand lettering demonstrations at your gatherings, events, and conventions. We bring bookmarks featuring our logo and personalize them by inscribing the guest’s name. Contact us to book our services through a donation. A minimum notice of two weeks is appreciated.
Please note that we operate as a non-profit organization and, unfortunately, we are unable to issue official donation receipts for income tax purposes.
