Tim McLaughlin will be presenting an In-Person talk:
Artisan Ink and the New Calligraphers: Handmade Ink and the Return to Penwork.
It is a surprising fact that image-based social media has ignited a return to calligraphy and pen work. A new generation is taking on the hand-made script. They are also rethinking ink and pigment production as artisans. Join Tim McLaughlin as he maps the creative landscape and shares some of his approach to ink-making and pen work. Tim’s journals, writings and photography may be found online at tmcl.ca

Heather Victoria Held will be presenting Spring Floral Flourishes via Zoom. The beautiful world of offhand flourishing is peaceful, meditative and traditionally done without the use of pencil or design planning. This can often be intimidating for beginners, but in this class you will gain confidence as you start to put your strokes together to create delightful Spring Flourishes. Nature will be our guide as we add florals and leaves with a soft touch of colour to these graceful flourishes. Once you understand a few basic strokes, you will be amazed at what you can create. The possibilities are endless for these beautiful designs that emerge almost magically on your paper. Good for all skill levels.
Our February meeting will be held on Feb. 23 via Zoom. Our feature presenter is Kerri Forster. She will be showing us tips and tricks for using a folded pen. Learn a wide variety of stroke possibilities. Thicks, thins, splatters, freedom!
