January – the perfect time to join Westcoast Calligraphy Society

Our membership year runs from January to December, so you get the best value if you join us now! Our first four programs of the year will be via Zoom and feature amazing Canadian calligraphers. Each program will feature a two-hour class which will be available as a recording for the rest of the month. That’s amazing value for $40.00 and there is still the rest of the year at no further cost :-)

Our January and February programs feature Kerri Forster from Calgary. In January she will be teaching Basic Italic. This is the hand that many associate with calligraphy.

Join us for our November 24 Meetng

This is our Annual General Meetin and elections will take place. Is it your turn to take on a role?  Financial Reports will also be approved.

Following the AGM, Richard Draffin will talk about the Canadian Books of Remembrance.

The Canadian Books of Remembrance commemorate the more than 120,000 Canadians who have given their lives in the service to our country. The eight Books on Parliament Hill have been lettered, illuminated, and bound by hand. Currently, the calligrapher responsible
for new entries and corrections is Richard Draffin of Ottawa. His presentation on these national treasures will be from a calligrapher’s point of view. He will discuss scripts, tools, materials, design with personal experiences
working on the Books of Remembrance.
A short Youtube video on the Room of Remembrance where the Books are displayed was opened in 2019

There will be a slide show of pieces done for our Exhbition, “Silver Linings and Gilded Words”.(Have you booked your time slot to get your work photographed on June 6. There is still time to book. Refer to your e-mail notification for the details. There’s also still time to actually complete a piece for the exhibition. Don’t be shy, let us see your work!
