It’s the start of a new calendar year,. It’s time to spend learning a new skill, enjoying your hobby, meeting new people or….Why not making getting more involved with Westcoast Calligraphy Society one of your resolutions. On January 24, Sherry Springall will lead us through a hands on program where we will learn how to make 3D letters. You don’t need to have a calligraphy background to learn to make these very effective letters and they can be combined with other calligraphic hands to make stunning pieces.

AGM, Bake Sale and Art Sale!!

Lots will be going on at this meeting. First we will have the AGM which hopefully will be brief,. Followed by our popular annual Bake Sale. This is your opportunity to pick up some assorted home baked goodies for your holiday entertaining. Items for sale are on tables for viewing at the beginning of the evening, but no purchases can be made until after the AGM. This year we are also adding an ART SALE. Anita Boyd-Johnson, donated a number of art works to the Society and we are offering some of them as silent auction items. You might be able to get some art work for a really good price!

Join us for our first meeting of the Fall as we begin to explore Black and White the theme for our next exhibition. We’ll be doing letters on 2 inch squares – white on black and black on white. Then we’ll look at ways to use our letters to form words.

Randy Green, owner of Frame Right Picture Frames in Burnaby, will give us some
tips and tricks of framing. Many of us have simply been using the Society provided
white mats and silver frames for years. Now that framing is up to us, how can we find
the perfect mat for our work? What frame would be best?

Neuland: Fun Variations with Violet Smythe

Violet will again lead us in our study of Neuland. This time we’ll concentrate on some of the many fun variations you can do with this lettering style.

At our March meeting we will be making a gate fold book in Red and White of course in honour of Canada’s 150th Birthday. All materials will be supplied. More details on the Meetings page!
